Beautiful Young asian Woman stock imageIn many cases, crooked noses result from trauma. Previous studies indicate that the bone and cartilage deviation after trauma is due to the excessive growth. When the cartilages and bones grow excessively more than the nasal soft tissue can support, the bones and cartilages will eventually deviate to create asymmetric appearance.

In addition, the deviated nose could result in difficulty breathing, infections, etc.

Consultation

The main goal of the surgery is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose and correct functional problems. In order to do so, the reason for deviated nose must be determined, and the external and internal conditions of the deviation must be thoroughly examined by Dr. Kenneth Kim. This way the fundamental problems can be corrected while the aesthetic appearance is improved through the surgery.

Procedure

Septoplasty sketch imageSurgical plans may vary depending on different conditions and surgery goals. However, the surgery will often involve removing a portion of deviated septal cartilage and straightening the nasal bone. If the septal deviation is not present and the bone deviation is not significant, the protruding portion of the bone can be shaved. Silicone implants may be inserted to raise the dorsum of the nose.

The duration of the surgery is different for each patient.

The surgery is performed under oral sedatives and local anesthesia, and the pain during surgery is minimal. Each patient will have different degree of swelling right after the surgery, but the swelling is most severe on first two days of the surgery. We recommend that a patient sleep with their head at a higher position using extra pillows in order to reduce swelling more quickly.

Post-Operative Care

The patient has to come in 1-2 days after the surgery for operative site cleansing. Our nurse will also teach you how to cleanse your nose and care for operative sites at home.
